Grace

Over at Amy Welborn is this post:
Poster children for cheap grace is the way a reader described the kids in this NY Times story about a Boston church youth group:
"It was wrong of Cardinal Law to place priests in parishes who were known to have histories of abuse, Will said. But he added: 'He needs to be forgiven for what he did. Everyone makes mistakes. If no one ever made mistakes, we wouldn't need Jesus.'"

I can't quite tell if Amy approves of the epithet or not, but I hope she doesn't. Grace isn't cheap, it is free. The U2 song "Grace" has perhaps the nicest way of putting it. especially at the moment: "Grace makes beauty out of ugly things." We are taught to approach God as a small child, but as grownups we scorn children for doing just that.
